Despite what you may think famous interior designers are not thin on the ground, and there are a great many of them gracing the halls of fame today. They might not be as well known or as prolific as some artists and fashion designers are, but they do exist nevertheless. The reason for this almost unheard of fame though I believe, can be solely attributed to the fact that interior designing didn't really take off until the latter half of the twentieth century.

In fact until the twentieth century there weren't necessarily any famous interior designers. Yes, there were famous interior designers for different era's but fame as we understand it didn't come until very recently when there was a spate of interest in all things DIY. And since interior decorating and some of its off shoots can be considered DIY that's when the general public aware of interior decorating. And it wasn't until a few years after that that different interior designers started to make a name for themselves amongst the general public.

For the most part these famous interior designers gained their fame through the usual means of achieving fame, through the TV. They appeared in numerous TV home improvement programs, and they held numerous, televised DIY programs and basically got their face well recognizable to the public. And that's how famous interior designers of the last decade of the twentieth century achieved more than a modest fame.

There are of course more famous interior designers than the ones you see on TV. Others who might be camera shy might be just as good as or even better at what they do than the more media savvy interior decorators.

Then there are the famous interior designers who have been around for what seems like forever and who have made a household name for themselves through their unrelenting efforts. These interior decorators are much lauded in their world and are the pundits from whom the new generation of interior decorators learn their craft.

So as you look for the names of famous interior designers you need to realize that you won’t be able to find all of them just because you look through interior magazines. Sometimes these famous interior designers like to keep their fame under control.

Famous interior designers aren't legion but there are a goodly number of them, and they all have talent and they all have one thing in common. They have a good eye for design and they can design a room to make the very best out of all its features. Okay, so that was two things they all have in common!
Interior Design History

Interior Design History

The topic of interior design history is a fascinating one and something that should really be explored at leisure. There are so many things to go through that you'd be surprised at just how long and colorful that history is. From the wild seventies to the bold eighties to the toned down nineties interior design history has come a long way. But that's not all.

If you dig deeper you'll also find that interior design history goes back longer than just the sixties or the seventies. It spans centuries and it spans continents, and it is admittedly one of the more fascinating aspects of human life. You can tell a lot about a culture by the interior designs for that particular time, and you can tell a lot about the people by how they have gone about designing their homes.

No two people are alike and this is also reflected in the way they furnish their homes. Interior design history through the ages has shown us that two people living in the same era and even next door to each other might not always display the same outlook of society that a general broader view might give you.

For instance you might like to have more of an elegant and traditional look and feel to your home whereas your neighbor might prefer the well-lived in look and shun the elegance you so desire. Taken separately what you get is a cross cut of one part of the social outlook for that age. And an interior design history student of the future might be forgiven for jumping to the conclusion that society during our time was either obsessed with perfection, or conversely that society had deteriorated to such an extent that homes were kept looking like pig-sties!

The interpretation of what they come across is entirely up to their discretion and what society is like at that period of time as well. So we as the interior design history students will also place different connotations on what we perceive as the reasons for a particular look in a particular era. But there's no doubting that no matter what conclusions we come to there's nothing more fascinating to look at than our interior design history.

There is just one thing to beware of in looking at the interior design history. And that is not to decide that interior designs from that or any other period of time did not have originality and initiative.
Interior Decor

Interior Decor

Choosing new interior decor to go with your old interior decor isn't always easy. There are times when the decor you're trying to match is so old and out of date that nothing you do will ever bring it back into fashion. Then again there's always the fact that your old interior decor might just be too old and worn to be of much use to you.

Whether you're trying to match some new interior decor to your old interior decor, or whether you're simply trying to refurbish your old interior decor, you might find yourself with the wrong end of the stick. Yours just might be a Herculean task and you might find yourself having to battle monsters at every turn. Monsters like Cost, Unavailability and Out-of-Stock might become bosom companions with your headaches.

So wherever possible you should try to get as close a match as possible to your existing interior decor and try and be satisfied with it. Unfortunately if you've got the redecorating bug in your blood then the last thing you might want to do is to settle for second best. So unless you're very attached to the old interior decor and old room design, you might want to think about going in for a newer look.

And this is where the fun part comes in and you get into the real nitty-gritty of redecorating. Then again if you just go with the flow and get your new room design sorted out you might be pleasantly surprised to find that you're coming across some interior decor which complements your old interior decor when you're going shopping.

Of course choosing new interior decor isn't always going to be easy if you're on the path to dumping out the window all of your old decor. Not for anything else of course but because you're probably going to want to choose a completely new decoration scheme for your room. This in itself can be a big job and something that's best done with a little bit of forethought.

However, after you get all of that sorted, all you need to do is to choose your new interior decor and cart it all back home. You might want to think about the best way to showcase your new interior décor so that it has pride of place in your newly repainted and refurbished room. Choosing new interior decor is the fun part of decorating and that's the truth of it!
Decorating On A Budget

Decorating On A Budget

If you love decorating and you love a challenge then you'll love the challenge of decorating on a budget. There's nothing quite like fighting your impulses to buy everything you see just so that you keep to your budget, and trying to get everything you need to decorate your house without breaking your budget. It is a losing battle I can tell you that much. Sometimes the desire to buy the amazing things you see in the home improvement stores can be almost overwhelming. There isn't too much that you can do about that except to move on as quickly as possible on to the next item on your list. That said, decorating on a budget can be quite fun if you can manage to loosen up a bit and not drool all over the expensive items. There are many inexpensive items you can buy that will look like their expensive cousins if they're displayed properly. And that's really the challenge of decorating on a budge, the ability to take an inexpensive item and be able to disguise its true worth and make it look like a hundred bucks instead. Then you also have the challenge of actually staying within your budget. For me now, that's more of a challenge than anything else as I regularly tend to go overboard. Unfortunately if you're decorating on a budget then the very last that you want to do is to go overboard. If you do spend more than is feasible on one particular piece then you can be sure that everything else on your list is going to get thrown off and no matter how hard you try it will be difficult to get everything back on track. The only way that you could even justify going way over budget for one piece of furnishing is if the quality is exceptional and if you're were thinking of making it the key piece of the room. If that's the case then you can always get away with something as your other pieces will necessarily be less expensive. In this case what you need to do is to highlight this expensive piece and use the other pieces to enhance it. Decorating on a budget need not mean that you have to cut down on quality to get everything that you want. As you are decorating on a budget it can also be fun, and creatively undertaken, it can also be done with flair.
